The Pitch, Round 2: Ayn Rand, Twitter court orders & health care scandals
Friendly competition between writers never hurt anyone! Us here at ShortFormBlog are interested in writing what you want to read. Head over to our Facebook photo album titled “The Pitch.” We all want to be the winner, but there can only be one. The story with the most Likes by Friday evening will be written just for you by Monday morning. Have you read last week’s winner yet? It’s really freaking good, guys. Trust us. source
Come do this fun thing with us!
“New York City is not about wringing your hands; it’s about doing something,” Bloomberg said. “I think that’s what the public wants the mayor to do.”
Follow the link to read the rest of my opinion article about Bloomberg’s ban on soda sizes. And, yes, I’m a fan of the idea.
Nominate ShortFormBlog for a Shorty Award!
Not to be asking too much or anything, but … This year’s Shorty Awards are happening again, and we’re looking to put a little effort into getting on them this year. We’re hoping for showings in two categories this year: Blogger and the Microblog of the Year on Tumblr special category. Either would be awesome, but anything you can offer would be great! Thanks for reading, y’all, and we hope you enjoy all the cool stuff we throw up.
At TIME.com, we’re working on a guide to the best Tumblrs out there. But we want to know what you think first.
What Tumblr can’t you live without? (Aside from ours, of course.) Whether it’s news, photography, design or just cat videos, we want to know what you follow — and why.
Reply to this post (and include the URL) with your picks. We’ll mark popular suggestions as “Readers’ Choice” in our final list, which should come out by the end of January.
We’d like to nominate Hipstamaticat, ilovecharts, rappersdoingnormalshit, cheatsheet (our sibling blawg) and shortformblog. (But that’s hardly a complete list! We love you all! Really!)
Tomorrow’s our third birthday: What we learned in the past twelve months
A lot of cake. A lot of reasons to celebrate. A lot of big news. In celebration of our birthday tomorrow — we started on January 1, 2009 — we thought we’d share a few anecdotes from the past year. The past twelve months of this silly experiment of telling people the news with big numbers and short blurbs has been a pretty exciting one, and we certainly gained a ton from this year. (In fact, we just hit our 20,000th follower this evening. Whoo!) There were many highlights and lowlights, and we wanted to reflect on a few of those. Hop over to the jump to see them in Summary Sandwich form.
I am real proud to be able to work with this team. I’ve learned so much from the short amount of time that I’ve been a writer for SFB.
This is one of those “you’re not hiring, but would you like to hire me” sort of deals - and it paid off. Invaluable experience, teamwork and fun.
Cheers to you, SFB. I’m a proud mama.
I promise to keep this short. It’s tradition to do so around here, since it’s our name. I’m Sami Main, a spunky writer that is way too excited to be joining the SFB team. I’m a journalism junior at the University of Florida; when I’m not having an opinion about the Oxford comma, I can be found on Tumblr and Twitter. I’d rather be raising the roof than the debt ceiling.
BOOYAH.
